GHANAFEST SA 2023: MONUMENTAL ‘HERITAGE CHANGES’ CELECRATION BY MAMA MONEY maymayproduction, September 20, 2023September 26, 2023 On September 16, 2023, a historic moment was etched into African history as the 9th edition of GhanaFest South Africa unfolded. This year’s festival, themed ‘Heritage Changes,’ proved to be a game-changer, thanks to the remarkable partnership between Mama Money and GhanaFest SA. The stage came alive when the iconic ‘OBRAFOUR’ (aka Ghana Rap Sofo) took the spotlight. Ghana High Commissioner, Mr. Charles Asuako Owiredu, also joined him on stage who added youthful energy to the performance by challenging OBRAFOUR with his dancing skills. The festival, which is free for anyone to attend, held at Fountains Valley in Pretoria. Over 5,000 attendees who reveled well into the midnight hours. Ghana’s rich culture was showcased through music, dance, clothing, cuisine, and more, fostering unity among Ghanaians in South Africa and strengthening the bonds between Ghana and South Africa. The High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr. Charles Asuako Owiredu, graced the stage alongside graceful adowa dancers. In his welcoming address, he highlighted the progress made in passport applications, proudly announcing the clearance of all backlogs. He also pledged unwavering support for GhanaFest SA’s annual program. Thomas Maree from Mama Money expressed his gratitude to the audience for their support in reviving GhanaFest SA. He also thanked everyone for making Mama Money the most trusted service for sending money to Ghana in South Africa. The event was filled with captivating performances, including a Chieftaincy Display by Ashanti, the Nzima cultural group, a fashion show by Sedglo Industries, and live music by the Sankofa Band. The South African Zulu dancers from the African Child Dance Group once again wowed the audience with their performance. This year, GhanaFest SA introduced an honorarium for individuals who’ve made outstanding contributions to their community. Mr. Benjamin Quashie and Mr. Emmanuel Semaglo received award certificates for their remarkable contributions to the Ghanaian community. The event attracted Ambassadors from various countries to South Africa.
